It is far broader than that — it is a navigation tool for any household trying to locate available help without knowing where to start.

Call 211 from any phone — the call is free, even from a cell phone with no remaining minutes in most states. Text your zip code to 898-211 to receive a text-back with local resources. Or search online at 211.org, which provides a searchable directory of programs by location and need category without requiring a call.
In 2025, NJ 211 alone responded to more than 337,000 contacts. Nationally, 211 networks handle tens of millions of contacts each year, connecting callers to assistance programs many people did not know they were eligible for — particularly Medicare Savings Programs, LIHEAP utility assistance, and local senior transportation services that go significantly underused simply because most people have never heard of them.
