The same prescription can cost $15 at one pharmacy and $85 at the one two blocks away. GoodRx is a tool that shows you those prices side by side before you ever hand over your card. It is not insurance. It does not replace Medicare or any other coverage. It is a price-comparison platform that negotiates discounted cash rates with more than 70,000 U.S. pharmacies — CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Kroger, Costco, and most independent drugstores — and makes those rates available to anyone who wants to use them.
How It Works
Go to GoodRx.com or download the app. Search for your medication by name, select your dosage and quantity, and enter your zip code. The tool displays the current negotiated price at every participating pharmacy near you, along with a coupon code tied to that price. Show the coupon to the pharmacist — either on your phone screen or printed — and pay the discounted price. No account is required to use the basic service.

One Important Rule to Know
GoodRx prices cannot be combined with Medicare Part D or Medicaid for the same prescription fill. Federal law prohibits it. However, for people on Medicare who have a medication with a high copay — particularly generics placed on a higher formulary tier — it is worth comparing the GoodRx cash price against the insurance copay at the point of purchase. Whichever is lower, you can choose that option for that fill.
